2008 Rose of Syrah

Plata Wine Company 2008 Rose of Syrah is a bright and pure colored rose that screams... Summer!  A pretty and clear color of red and lighter shades of pink tells the drinker that they should be ready for a wine that will both refresh as well as satisfy.  As the taster lifts the glass to their nose they are flushed with the pure aromas of wild strawberries and watermelon, with a hint of white pepper.  On the palate all of your aromas perceived are realized with the addition of acid giving the wine lift.  One can tell that it’s this lift that will let this wine to be paired with lighter foods, such as grilled fish or chicken.

2007 El Jefe de Cultura Blue Label

Plata Wine Company-2007 "El Jefe de Cultura" Paso Robles, Ca.  This wine is an equal parts blend of estate grown Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The wine shows fresh aromas of cherry and blackberry compote intertwined with nuances of crushed lilac.  On the palate, this medium to full bodied wine follows thru with definition of acidity and fine tannin.  The wine finishes with a lingering reminder of the primary fruit aromas balanced with sweet french oak.

2007 El Jefe de Cultura Reserve

The 2007 Plata Wine Company El Jefe de Cultura Reserve (silver label ~150 cases) pays homage to the lovers of richly styled wine.  Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, this wine was created by selecting winemaker/owner Robert Plata's favorite barrels of wine.  "I had just one goal... to find the best and tastiest wine from the vintage to craft the Reserve," Robert said.  Mission accomplished.  The wine shows a forceful perfume of baked blackberry and blueberry pie.  On the palate, the fruit is perfectly enhanced with nuances of lavender and Asian spices.  As the wine finishes, you are reminded that, even though the wine has weight, it still framed well with fine dusty tannins and the unmistakable addition of French oak.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

Info:  The Plata Wine Company (PWC) 2007 Rose of Syrah is 100% Estate grown Syrah from the Geneseo district of Paso Robles.  The Syrah in the vineyard is planted to the Chateau de Beaucastel clone.

Wine:  The color is vivid and pure.  The wine has cla ssic pink to darker red hues, flecked by a tinge of orange.

Nose:  Nose is full yet restrained with perfume of wild strawberries, rose petal and orange blossom.

Taste:  The flavor is a continuum of the nose, but with a dash of white pepper.  All framed with a natural acidity that leaves the palate refreshed.

Pairing:  The wine is a joy to drink on its own.  I suggest that you serve this wine chilled, as you would any other Rose.  This wine pairs well with fresh grilled fish and vegetables.  I also find that the wine pairs well with spicy dishes such as Jamaican Jerk Chicken or Tacos de Carnitas with homemade salsa.  Cheers!
